Certification for games played by MYSC players is done directly via the Connecticut State Referee Program (CSRP) and U.S. Soccer. Detailed instructions, registration and on-line courses are all available on the CSRP website. Please visit the CSRP website for the most current information. The current 2017-18 Laws of the Game are available on the US Soccer website and here.
Currently Certified (2018) Referees:
Free CSRP in-service clinics will be held prior to the 2018 spring season. One of these in-service clinics is in Montville at Tyl Middle School at Monday, March 19, 6-8pm. Whatever in-service class you take, please register on the CSRP website.
Recertification for 2019 is not expected to be available until fall of 2018 for those referees with 2018 certification.
New Referee Certification (CSRP, USSF):
All adults and youth that are interested in becoming a referee only need to do Grade 8 (Entry level) to officiate youth soccer. New refs must be at least 13 years old by December 31, 2017 to earn the 2018 certification.
"Entry Level" Referee Certification IS OPEN NOW! The registration for the online portion is open through March 18 with the required in-person sessions starting approximately January 27th and ending on April 8th. Referees that complete this certification are eligible to officiate throughout 2018 (including Spring and Fall regular seasons). The certification consists of on-line modules with a test at the end of each module in which the referee candidate has to receive 100% to move on to the next module. Following successful completion of the on-line modules, the new referee also has to register for and complete 1 in-person training session (5 hours). Available in-person sessions will be available state-wide with registration through the CSRP website following completion of the on-line course. One of these in-person sessions is planned in Montville on Sunday, March 18, so if you want to attend that course you will need to complete the on-line portion before then. Appropriate referee uniform (including flags) purchased separately is required for the in-person session. As soon as the referee completes the course they are certified through December 31, 2018.
Referees are independent contractors available to work whenever and wherever they please. Advice for new referees. We hope referees located in and near Montville will choose to officiate games for the MYSC.
Refereeing for MYSC:
Certified referees should wear the complete uniform specified by US Soccer; several acceptable uniform options (including women's fit) can be found at officialsports.com. New referees should reach out to the MYSC Ref Assignor (Chris Bowman) with any questions.
For new referees only, Grade 8 certification fees are reimbursed by MYSC once 3 games have been officiated.
with any questions.
